Password to open
When a password for opening is set, the document’s content is encrypted and cannot be viewed without the correct password.
If you encounter the enter password dialog (see below) when opening the document in Microsoft OneNote, it means that the document is password-protected.
If an opening password is set, a strong encryption method is used, so the password generally cannot be recovered instantly. However, with OneNote Password Recovery’s unique methods, in most cases passwords are recovered very quickly.
To remove a known (or recovered) password for opening:
- Click the tab of the section for which you want to remove password protection.
- Click "Password Protect this Section..." in the "File" menu.
- Click "Remove Password..." in the "Password Protection" task pane.
- In the "Remove Password" dialog box, type the current password, and then click "OK".
To protect specific sections of your notebook with a password:
- Click the tab of the section you want to protect.
- Click "Password Protect this Section..." in the "File" menu.
- In the "Password Protection" task pane, click "Set Password...".
- In the "Password Protection" dialog box, type the password in the "Enter Password" box.
- Type your password again in the "Confirm Password" box, and then click "OK".
